Jason Kitenge est un jeune homme dévoué et passionné : ces deux qualités l’ont mené, dès son plus jeune âge, à développer un intérêt particulier pour la gestion de projets. Né et élevé à Londres, Jason Kitenge a cependant gardé une grande empreinte congolaise dans son éducation. Intéressé par les disparités au Congo, ce jeune homme de 22 ans a décidé de rejoindre le “Warwick International Development Society” où il a commencé à comprendre les différents aspects économiques et politiques qui façonnent aujourd’hui le monde dans lequel nous vivons.
Passionné par l’Afrique, le développement et le commerce, Jason a voulu rechercher à la fin de ses études un parcours professionnel pouvant allier ces trois thématiques. Jason a rencontré certaines difficultés à trouver une entreprise où il pouvait non seulement combiner son travail avec sa passion tout en ayant la possibilité de prendre des décisions clés. C’est pourquoi il a d’abord créé un groupe de jeunes uni par la même ambition : apporter des solutions pour améliorer le fonctionnement de notre planète. Ce n’est que suite à sa participation à l’organisation du “Warwick Africa Summit” qu’il a constaté l’impact que pouvait avoir un groupe de jeunes personnes dédié et focalisé sur une thématique. En effet, il est convaincu qu’un petit groupe de personnes motivé peut faire la différence :

Pamoja Network est donc une entreprise gérée par des jeunes entrepreneurs qui souhaitent échanger et partager sur les différents challenge que l’Afrique doit accomplir. Ils ont constaté un important manque de jeune africains impliqués dans la diaspora africaine, c’est pourquoi ils souhaitent développer un important réseau qui permettra à chacun d’apporter des solutions pour les objectifs de développement durable “Sustainable Development Goals” (SDG) des Nations Unis dans le contexte de l’Afrique. En effet, étant un jeune de la diaspora congolaise qui a vécu à Londres, il considère que son devoir est d’apporter certaines de ces connaissances à son pays d’origine.
Pour se faire, Pamoja fonctionnera sur trois thèmes. “Pamoja Insights” permettra de réunir différents jeunes afin d’échanger et d’amener de nouvelles perspectives sur certains sujets. “Pamoja Talks” sera l’occasion de revenir sur les idées apportées précédemment et d’échanger avec des patrons d’entreprises, des experts du domaine ou encore des représentants gouvernementaux. Et finalement “Pamoja Fellowship” sera un programme culture sur la recherche et le projet. Il permettra aux sélectionnés du “Pamoja Talks” de partir en Afrique afin d’échanger avec divers intervenants.
Pamoja Network est en cours d’organisation et le lancement est prévu pour octobre 2019. À ce jour, leur objectif est de continuer à dessiner leur business model, et bien sûr, rencontrer des potentiels sponsors et partenaires.
Jason Kitenge n’a pas de regrets, il a décidé de lancer ce réseau car lui aussi voulait avoir un impact sur les décisions de demain et pouvoir les influencer. Selon Jason, le succès d’une entreprise réside sur le caractère de l’entrepreneur et son implication dans ce projet.

I’m always thrilled and hopeful when I come across profiles like Jason Kitenge’s. Why? because it strengthens my belief that the young African diaspora has the potential to have a significant impact and a crucial role to play in the economic and social development of the African continent.
Jason Kitenge is the founder of the Pamoja Network - a youth driven social enterprise focused on connecting young global leaders to tackle Africa’s challenges. Jason and the Pamoja members believe and have observed a lack of youth and diaspora engaged in African affairs, therefore, their vision is to develop a powerful network of young leaders globally, who collaborate with incumbent decision-makers to strategise and deliver innovative projects targeting each of the United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in the context of Africa.This former student of the University of Warwick was born and raised in London but definitely kept a strong link with his Congolese roots through his family but also because of his fervent interest in the country’s political history especially the disparity between the Congo under Mobutu and today.
Asides politics, Jason Kitenge has always been interested in business and trade and above all in entrepreneurship. Besides, a fun fact you should know about Jason is that at 7 years old, he was reading every newspaper possible, before selecting stories to copy out into the ‘Kitenge Times’ which he would then charge £2 to his father for when he got home. So, it’s safe to say he was a ‘natural born hustler’.
The founder of Pamoja Network is also sharp, determined and full of ambitions and goes by the motto:
‘Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.’
The reason why he decided to embark on this journey was because he struggled to find organizations which engaged his interest and had a culture allowing junior employees to have great ownership of activities. So, it made sense to him to build one of his own which would align his work with passions and offered him an ability to make key decisions.
The Pamoja Network therefore covers the following areas:
Pamoja Insights - is the organization Think-Tank
Pamoja Talks - is where we bring these insights to life by giving young people a platform to exchange their views with stakeholders;
Pamoja Fellowship - is the organization cultural, field research and project programme.
When asked about how he thinks Pamoja Network his particularly having an impact on DRC’s development, Jason Kitenge highlighted that ‘’Pamoja contributes to the economic development of the DRC by leveraging the skill set of the diaspora in the West and engaging these individuals in collaborating with on the ground institutions in Congo to carry out a UN SDG focused project. We are connecting global skill sets from young professionals to issues which they are passionate about that DRC is facing, for example, Improving the Financial Literacy of youth entrepreneurs."
It was a delight to meet Jason Kitenge and to learn about his aspirations.
